Gesalt on the grid
Proximity
According to the concept of proximity, objects that are close to one another seem to be more connected than those that are farther apart. In order to establish this relationship, I filled placeholder type upon the boxes in which created a checkered effect.Despite the difference in negative and positive space, the text are still viewed as a group due to their close distance and similar characteristics.
Similarity
According to the concept of similarity,Comparable elements are viewed as being more connected than dissimilar ones.Using the same alignment on each text box, I was able to have a congruent foreground, however with the use of spacing between lines I created a constant white space along the piece.Although its similar, the white line varies in almost every box. Thus, showing similarity.
Continuity
According to the concept of continuity. The perception of elements is that they are more connected when they are organized on a line or curve than when they are not.Compared to the work displayed in similarity I used the spacing to establish a line from positive and negative space.Throughout the text boxes it seems to continue the design until it comes to a stop where all you see is positive space or in other words white. This was part of the piece as the constant positive space also displays continuity.
According to the concept of closure, its the deception of seeing a partial input as whole. Before developing the design I wanted to make the shape of a rectangle visible but without it being obvious. To do so I placed placeholder text along only the sides and top while leaving the center open.To create contrast I added spacing in between lines and connected them along the sides and top almost like a border. As a result the positive space turns out to be a rectangle.
According to the concept of figure and ground, people instinctively perceive objects as either being in the foreground or the background.I decided to follow a simple but yet fantastic approach. One might believe it is just some text that keeps increasing vertically. However that isn't the full picture, if seen closely they resemble stairs with of the use of the negative and positive you could see stairs either both values. All you had to do was adjust the alignment to be equal upon every text box.
Throughout this assignment I only encountered some issues, in which include the ability to align multiple text as all were connected it limited singular use of a text. But with constant trial and error I was able to establish alignment ideas. In addition the grids were very useful as it created bounds in which the texts couldn't exceed.
The design I don't like is the Figure and Ground design. The reason because I think that the design is too simple although you did did use positive and negative space in the design. My favorite design is the continuation design because not only the white line continues but the same design from top to bottom also somewhat remans the same.
ReplyDeleteI like how nicely organized each of the little paragraphs was written and how its all labeled and neatly understood I believe you have done a great job on the girds
ReplyDeleteI like how thoughtful you are with these grids. It shows you worked hard on them.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite design is Closure because I like how the words in the text box are separated equally from top to bottom on each side. My least favorite one is continuity because it looks similar to Closure because of the text box.
ReplyDeleteOne of the more organized ones i have ever seen. Its very nice and detailed. really nice to look at with my eyeballs. Im feeling a solid 9/10
ReplyDeleteMy least favorite design is proximity because I have seen many designs like these but still well done. My most favorite is continuity, it looks very well done and unique. He describe this work very well. 10/10 truly a goat c:
ReplyDeleteAppreciate it, I would try to be more creative.
